The Cox Convention Center could be converted into a movie and television production studio as part of an agreement being considered Tuesday by the Oklahoma City Council.

The agreement, which is to be followed by lease negotiations, calls for creation of five sound stages in the convention center to be marketed and operated by Prairie Surf Media led by filmmaker Matt Payne and actress Rachel Cannon. The Cox Convention Center, opened in 1972, underwent a renovation and expansion in 1998 as part of the original Metropolitan Area Projects but soon will be replaced by the new Oklahoma City Convention Center. The letter of intent to be voted on Tuesday, if approved, would be followed by a preliminary term sheet in October, a final term sheet in November, and lease finalization in December.
